• The Movies – Most local movie theaters have special pricing Monday through Thursday.  Save some money by catching a movie during these “off-peak” days.  Same movie, less money!
• Travel – Your CashNetUSA teammates had a lot of travel tips, so stay with us!  Book flights online during Tuesdays or Wednesdays when prices are historically the cheapest.  As the weekend rush is over, and managers want to fill rooms, book your hotel stay on a Sunday night.  Last but not least, travel with another family or group to get discount rates on flights, hotels, and transportation.
• The Beach – Most of us will be hitting the beach for the last time this weekend, but you can still save money.  Remember to stock up on food and drinks before leaving.  This way you will not be paying outrageous prices at the beach.
• Gas – AAA suggests fueling up mid week when gas is cheaper. Also, if you are traveling, ask your hotel if they are offering gas rebates at the front desk.

Free.  It is such a great word.  Your CashNetUSA family loves that word as much as you do, because it means saving money.  We wanted to remind you how great this word can be when it is combined with everyday savings.  We asked some of our CashNetUSA teammates for suggestions.  Don’t worry, you can high five us after you have read our free tips. We just hope you have enough “free” time to read them all.

• Cell Phone – Most national carriers will give you a free phone (sometimes a free smartphone) when you sign up for a two-year contract.  Ask around at your local carrier store, they will be able to point you in the direction of a free cell phone.
• Books – You never should have to pay for a book.  Ever.  Remember checking out a book at the school library when you were young?  Believe it or not, there are bigger public libraries not to far from you.  Check out a book for free, and just remember to return it, or your free book will turn into a “fee” book.
• Water – Yes, we know everyone has a monthly water bill, but do you really have to pay so much for bottled water? You can save countless amounts of money by having your own water bottle! Buy yourself a reusable aluminum water bottle and refill it from the tap.
• The News – If you are reading this blog post, you are on the Internet.  If you are on the Internet, you have access to thousands of news sites, locally and around the world.  So what are you doing paying for a newspaper?  Cancel your delivery paper, and visit its online site.  It’s the same news, but you do not have to wait for it with your morning coffee!
• Shipping – Here is another part of your life that the Internet can help you out with more Free.  If you love to buy online like many of your CashNetUSA family members, you should never have to pay for shipping.  Search the Internet for coupons mentioning free shipping for the website you are buying from.  Or, visit a site like www.freeshipping.org.

One of our CashNetUSA teammates slashed his cell phone plan minutes and has been smiling about how much money he is saving each month.  This got us talking about small money saving tips that your CashNetUSA friends are doing that are saving them big money.  Here are some of our favorites.

• Sell, Sell, Sell: We have belongings we do not use anymore, or have never used.  Your CashNetUSA family even admits it! These personal belongings can sit around for a lifetime, or are thrown out.  My mother always said, “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.” Have a yard sale, or sell them on the Internet, someone is willing to put money in your pocket!
• Cancel Your Land Line:  Who uses a “land line” anymore?  Land lines are becoming as outdated as the phone booth. Unless you are Superman, you probably are not using a phone booth, and odds are you also not using your land line. Why pay for something you don’t use?  Use your cell phone, lose the land line.
• Lose Your Gym and the Fat:  No one needs a gym to work out.  Save the money you spend at the gym and work out at home.  Purchase free weights at a local sporting goods store, or find some used equipment on the web.  A little money upfront can save you a lot of money down the road.
• Cancel Cable:  This was hard for a couple of your CashNetUSA friends to handle. We are big TV fans.  Before you cancel everything, decide what shows and channels you watch, then find them online.  You’ll realize that most, if not all, can be watched on the Internet.  Why pay for two services that accomplish the same thing?

• Back to School – Visit a veterinary school instead of a veterinarian for minor surgeries, vaccinations, and dental care.  Some veterinary schools can save you up to half the cost of your normal veterinarian bill.  Use that extra money to buy your pet something special after being so brave during their vet visit.

• Don’t Shower – Well, don’t stop showering altogether, but stop showering regularly.  Save money on your water bill while making your bathroom products last longer.  Your CashNetUSA team member, Dorian, went three weeks without showering regularly.  When asked for comment, he said his water bill was “significantly lower, but I would rather not try it again…  It was a college bet.  I won and saved some money!”
• Stop Shaving – This suggestion is as “hairy” as it sounds.  Our team member Keith has not shaved in nine months (don’t worry, he’s in a band).  Keith said that not shaving has saved him “over $250 so far… My beard is thick, so I was always buying razors and shaving cream…  It keeps me warm in the winter.  Plus, my wife likes it.  Everyone is happy.”
• Live Without Heat or Airconditioning – Our CashNetUSA team member, Colleen, uncomfortably tried this for a full year while saving money for a house.  ”My winter was spent wrapped in blankets, but I had a savings goal in mind.  The money I saved each month helped keep me going.”  If you can through it out like Colleen, your growing bank account will keep you comfortable.

• Your Retirement –Figure out how much money you need to retire with by starting with the end in mind. A good reference is to multiply your current annual income by 25. It is never too early to start saving.

• Bulking Up – Buying in bulk may sound like a good idea, but buyer beware.  Buying in bulk can increase your grocery budget, while allowing you to increase consumption.  The next thing you know, you’re back at the store buying more expensive bulk items.

• Shopping Without a List – Knowing exactly what you need causes you to stick to your budget.  Your CashNetUSA family member could have used a list this weekend!

• Dieting – If you are new to dieting, you can actually be hurting you wallet.  Sometimes, dieting can cause weak will power, causing you to overspend.    Kathleen Vohs, a marketing professor at the University of Minnesota says that when on a diet, “people are less able to restrain their impulses, so whatever they are tempted to do — like spend on needless trinkets — will emerge.”

1)   “Clean Your Room.” – That’s right, a chore before the chore of shopping.  Have your child help while organizing their room.  If everything is in the right place, you are less likely to end up buying something they already have.

2)   Give Back – Remember all the cleaning you just did?  Give away those old clothes at a Salvation Army or Goodwill.  Or best of all, sell them to a “resale shop” to earn cash before the “back to school” trip.

3)   A Family Affair – Take your children with you while shopping.  You will discover they are helpful when it comes to school supplies.  You kids will save you time and money buy telling you what they need (and like) for school.

4)   Avoid Labels – Designer clothes carry a big price tag.  Don’t get caught up in the moment and shop around.  Chances are you will find something similar in style, but not in price.

5)   Wait – If you can, wait a couple days until after school starts.  You are more likely to find better sales on all your supplies.
