Self-help is the Best Help

Thursday, May 31st, 2007

A new report from the Federal Trade Commission warns of the dangers of so-called ‘credit repair’ services. These companies bombard consumers with emails, letters and pop-ups declaring a ’solution to your poor credit’. When in truth, many of these companies are unlicensed, fly-by-night operations that end up taking your money without providing any service at all.

Most honest financial consultants (the FTC included) will tell you that the only true way to improve your bad credit standing is through self-help measures. Paying off debts, finding ways to save and cutting back on unneeded expenses are traditional, but effective ways, to improve your credit standing.

One bad cycle that many consumers get trapped in is the circulating credit card debt. Most credit cards offer easy access to money, but come equipped with exceptionally high interest rates. Miss a payment or overdraw your limit and credit card companies will report this slip-up to credit bureaus, only further solidifying bad credit status.

However, short-term options such as payday loans and cash advances - when used responsibly and only in emergency situations - are a good way to overcome short-term cash needs without endangering your credit standing. Payday loans can help you out of a financial jam, without miring you in the cycle of high APR and debts that other forms of lending might.

No Credit? No Problem, with Payday Loans

Tuesday, May 29th, 2007

We’ve all been in that situation before: some unexpected expense comes up, but the old piggy bank is a little light. It can be difficult for anyone to find the appropriate financial solution for unforeseen expenses, but it is doubly hard for those of us with no or poor credit. Not only will most banks or credit card lenders not approve those with credit issues, but even if they do, the process can takes weeks. And you need money now.

Luckily payday loans and cash advances solve both problems. With an inherent speed of funding, you can apply online for cash and receive the money next day. Best of all, these short-term financial solutions deal with smaller amounts of cash than traditional loans, mortgages or credit cards, so having poor or non-existent credit doesn’t interfere with the loan process.

Payday loans should never be used as a long-term financial solution. But when you’re in a pinch, need money quick and don’t want to hassle with long applications, payday loans and cash advances are your answer to a slow cash flow.

Frequently Asked Questions about Payday Loans

Thursday, May 24th, 2007

Payday loans and cash advances are popular short-term financial solutions to cash flow needs. While these loans are often quick and simple to apply for, many customers have questions about lending regulations and the loan process. Here are some common queries:

How often do most borrowers use payday loan services?

According to the Credit Research Center (CRC), 78% of cash advance users rely on payday loans between once a year and once a month. Just over half use the service six times or fewer a year - indicating use based around unexpected and temporary cash flow problems.

Cash advances can be a responsible and hassle-free way to get needed money fast, but it’s important to remember that they are designed as short-term loans, not as long-term financial solutions.

To obtain credit counseling services, contact the National Foundation for Credit Counseling. The NFCC is a national network of non-profit Financial Care Centers dedicated to helping people learn how to budget and use credit wisely. Call 1-800-388-2227 to find a center near you.

Payday Loan Industry working to Help Consumers

Friday, May 18th, 2007

Together CashNetUSA, the CSFA, and each of its members have announced a new advertising campaign in an effort to enlighten their consumers. For years the industry has pushed the true use of payday loans as being strictly a short-term solution. Well this obviously wasn’t enough as they have launched both TV and Print ad campaigns nationally stressing this issue.

As of July 31, the CFSA and its members must now abide by these guidelines:

- All members must adhere to a New Extended Repayment plan.
- No member will advertise with frivolous intentions.
- Each member must display a voluntary notice advising that payday advances are for short-term use only on all advertising materials.
- Help in the launch of a $10 million national public education campaign explaining responsible uses of payday advances.
- Each CFSA member store must display the CFSA member seal for consumers to see.

Payday loans are designed for short-term solutions to financial distress. They are by no means long-term solutions.
